A poultice of figs might be very proper to maturate a boil, or dismiss any obstinate inflammatory swelling; but we need not discuss its propriety in this case, because it was as much the means which God chose to bless for his recovery, as the clay which Christ moistened to anoint the eyes of the blind man; for in both cases, without Divine interposition the cure could not have been effected.ReciprocalLeviticus 13:18 - a boil; 2 Kings 20:5 - I will heal; Habakkuk 3:1 - out of; Revelation 13:14 - they Verse 8What shall be2 Kings 20:5, 19:29; Judges 6:17, 6:37-40; Isaiah 7:11, 7:14, 38:22; Hosea 6:2ReciprocalGenesis 15:8 - General; 24:14 - thereby; 1 Kings 13:3 - General; 2 Chronicles 32:31 - the wonder; Isaiah 38:7 - General Verse 9This signIsaiah 38:7, 38:8; Matthew 16:1-4; Mark 8:11, 8:12; Luke 11:29, 11:30ReciprocalJudges 6:36 - If thou wilt; 2 Kings 19:29 - a sign; Isaiah 37:30 - this shall Verse 102 Kings 2:10, 3:18; Isaiah 49:6; Mark 9:28, 9:29; John 14:12ReciprocalJoshua 10:14 - there was Verse 11cried untoExodus 14:15; 1 Kings 17:20, 17:21, 18:36-38; Acts 9:40 he broughtJoshua 10:12-14; 2 Chronicles 32:24, 32:31; Isaiah 38:8 dialHeb. degreesReciprocalJoshua 10:14 - there was Verse 12 amBerodachbaladanIsaiah 39:1-8, Merodach-baladanking2 Chronicles 32:31 BabylonGenesis 10:10, 11:9; Isaiah 13:1, 13:19, 14:4 sent letters2 Samuel 8:10, 10:2 for he had heardIsaiah 39:1ReciprocalGenesis 43:11 - carry down; Isaiah 14:32 - shall one; 23:13 - the Assyrian Verse 13showed2 Chronicles 32:27; Isaiah 39:2 precious thingsor, spicery, 1 Kings 10:2, 10:10, 10:15, 10:25 armouror, jewels, Heb. vesselsthere was nothing2 Chronicles 32:25, 32:26; Proverbs 23:5; Ecclesiastes 7:20Reciprocal2 Kings 20:15 - All the things; 2 Chronicles 32:31 - in the business; 36:18 - treasures; Ezekiel 23:40 - to come Verse 14came IsaiahIsaiah 39:3-8 What said2 Kings 5:25, 5:26; 2 Samuel 12:7-15; 2 Chronicles 16:7-10, 25:7-9, 25:15, 25:16; Psalm 141:5; Proverbs 25:12; Jeremiah 26:18, 26:19; Amos 7:12, 7:13; Mark 6:18, 6:19 a far countryDeuteronomy 28:49; Joshua 9:6, 9:9; Isaiah 13:5ReciprocalNumbers 22:9 - What men; 2 Chronicles 28:9 - he went out; Ezekiel 23:23 - Babylonians Verse 15All the things2 Kings 20:13; Joshua 7:19; Job 31:33; Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:8-10ReciprocalNumbers 22:9 - What men; 2 Chronicles 28:9 - he went out; Isaiah 39:3 - came Isaiah Verse 16Hear2 Kings 7:1; 1 Kings 22:19; Isaiah 1:10; Amos 7:16Reciprocal2 Chronicles 32:26 - General Verse 17shall be carried2 Kings 24:13, 25:13-15; Leviticus 26:19; 2 Chronicles 36:10, 36:18; Jeremiah 27:21, 27:22, 52:17-19Reciprocal1 Kings 11:12 - in thy days; 2 Kings 22:16 - Behold; 24:2 - according; Job 20:28 - increase; Psalm 87:4 - Babylon; Isaiah 39:6 - that all; Jeremiah 20:5 - I will deliver; Daniel 1:3 - General Verse 18thy sons2 Kings 24:12, 25:6; 2 Chronicles 33:11 they shall be"Fulfilled in Daniel 1:3-7.ReciprocalPsalm 87:4 - Babylon; Jeremiah 20:5 - I will deliver; 29:2 - eunuchs; 39:9 - carried; Micah 4:10 - shalt thou Verse 19GoodLeviticus 10:3; 1 Samuel 3:18; Job 1:21; Psalm 39:9; Lamentations 3:22, 3:39 Is it not good, etcor, Shall there not be peace and truth, etc. peace and truthEsther 9:30; Jeremiah 33:6; Zechariah 8:19; Luke 2:10, 2:14Reciprocal1 Kings 2:38 - The saying; 11:12 - in thy days; 2 Chronicles 32:26 - Hezekiah; 34:28 - neither; Acts 21:14 - The will Verse 20he made a pool2 Chronicles 32:4, 32:30, 32:32; Nehemiah 3:16; Isaiah 22:9-11 the book2 Kings 8:23, 15:6, 15:26, 16:19; 1 Kings 14:19, 15:7, 15:23Reciprocal2 Kings 18:17 - the conduit of the upper pool; 21:17 - the rest; 21:25 - General; 23:28 - the rest; 2 Chronicles 35:27 - deeds; Nehemiah 2:14 - the gate of the fountain; Isaiah 7:3 - the end Verse 21 amslept2 Kings 21:18; 1 Kings 2:10, 11:43, 14:31; 2 Chronicles 26:23, 32:33 Manasseh2 Kings 21:1Reciprocal16:19 - General; 21:17 - the rest; 2 Chronicles 32:32 - in the book; Matthew 1:9 - Ezekias; 1:10 - Manasses Verse 1 amwas twelve2 Kings 20:21; 1 Chronicles 3:13; 2 Chronicles 32:33, 33:1-9; Matthew 1:10, ManassesHephzibahProverbs 5:19; Isaiah 62:4 *marg.Reciprocal1 Samuel 8:3 - his sons; 2 Kings 22:1 - eight years old; 2 Chronicles 33:22 - as did Manasseh Verse 2And he did2 Kings 21:7, 21:16, 16:2-4, 22:17; 2 Chronicles 33:2-4 after the abominationsLeviticus 18:25-29; Deuteronomy 12:31; 2 Chronicles 36:14; Ezekiel 16:51ReciprocalLeviticus 18:27 - General; Deuteronomy 4:25 - do evil; 1 Kings 11:7 - build an high; 21:20 - to work; 21:26 - according to; 2 Kings 15:28 - evil; 16:3 - according; 17:8 - walked; 21:20 - as his father; 23:32 - General; 24:3 - for the sins; Isaiah 66:4 - they did; Ezekiel 11:12 - but; 22:3 - and maketh; Revelation 17:4 - abominations Verse 3the high places2 Kings 18:4, 18:22; 2 Chronicles 32:12, 34:3 he reared2 Kings 10:18-20; 1 Kings 16:31-33, 18:21, 18:26 a groveRather, as we have before remarked, Asherah or Astarte. In the following verses the doom of Judah and Jerusalem is passed, and it is a heavy doom. The prophets were sent in the first place to teach them the knowledge of God, to remind them of their duty, and direct them in it: if they succeeded not in that, their next work was to reprove them for their sins, and to set them in view before them, that they might repent and reform, and return to their duty: if in this they prevailed not, their next work was to foretell the judgments of God, that the terror of them might awaken to repentance those who would not be made sensible of the obligations of his love; or else that the execution of them, in their season, might be a demonstration of the divine mission of the prophets who foretold them. They were made judges to those who would not hear and receive them as teachers. - Henry.

It is not probable that this was the only copy of the law in the land, or that Josiah had never before seen the book of Moses; but the fact seems to be, that this was the original of the covenant renewed by Moses in the plains of Moab, and now being unexpectedly found, its antiquity, the occasion of its being made, the present circumstances of the people, the imperfect state in which the reformation was as yet, after all that had been done, would all concur to produce the effect here mentioned on the mind of the pious Josiah.
